Video Editing Fees 2026: Per Project, Minute & Month

Four price tags of different sizes above a video editing timeline with one long clip track and several shorter clips

Last checked: October 2026 (every fee below read on a vendor or marketplace page on 24 Oct 2026).

Short answer

Video editing fees run $81–$327 for a long-form edit and $30.94–$94 for a short on productised services. Freelancers quote $500–$1,500 per YouTube video, and studios charge $2,500–$10,000 for a 60-second explainer. Monthly plans start at $495. Prices read 24 Oct 2026.

TL;DR

We read 48 published fees from 8 sources and sorted them by what you are buying: a long-form video, a short, an ad or an explainer. Each deliverable is billed in a different unit (per video, per credit, per month of capacity or per finished minute), so the cheapest headline is rarely the cheapest job. A worked month of 4 long-form videos and 15 shorts costs $995 to $2,540 on productised services, $2,600 to $9,000 from freelancers and $9,500 on a full-service B2B retainer.

A video editing quote is a fee structure before it is a number. One vendor charges per video, another sells credits, a third sells a month of an editor’s time, and a fourth quotes a flat project price for an animated explainer. This guide maps the published fees to the four things marketing teams actually commission: long-form videos, shorts, ads and explainers. It deliberately does not repeat the rate tables elsewhere on this site. Our video editing cost guide is the overall price and per-minute benchmark, the video editor hourly rates guide covers hourly and country rates, and the video editing retainer cost guide covers monthly packages. This page answers a different question: which fee structure should I expect for the deliverable I am buying, and what does it work out to?

The Five Ways Editing Fees Are Structured

Almost every published editing price falls into one of five structures. The unit you pay for decides how the cost behaves as your volume changes.

Fee structure Unit you pay for Published example Best when
Per video One finished video, with volume discounts Tasty Edits: $327 for one horizontal video, $278 each at 8 videos; $94 for one vertical, $80 each at 30 Volume is low or uneven
Credits A prepaid pool; each video type costs a set number of credits Video Husky: 1 credit = a short, 2 = a basic edit up to 20 min, 5 = a 20-90 min video; $40.50-$45 per credit. VidChops: 1 credit = 1 long-form or 4 shorts You mix formats and want unused budget to carry over
Monthly output plan A fixed number of long-form videos and shorts each month Motion Edits: $999 for up to 4 long-form + 8 shorts. Video Editing Company: $5,000 for 2 long-form + 8-10 shorts Steady content calendar
Monthly editor time A block of dedicated editor hours Vidpros: $1,000 for 2 hours per workday, $4,000 for 8. Video Husky: $849 for 10 editor hours a week Output varies and you want a fixed team
Per project or hourly A quote for one job, or an hourly rate Upwork: $500–$1,500 for one YouTube video, $1,500–$5,000 for a 60-120 s motion piece; hourly $10-$150 by tier One-off or highly custom work

Fees by Deliverable at a Glance

The table converts each structure into a fee for one finished video of each type. Ranges show the spread between the lowest and highest published figure we found for that deliverable on 24 Oct 2026. Figures marked “our arithmetic” divide a published plan price by the output the vendor states.

Deliverable Productised per-video / credit Monthly plan, per video (our arithmetic) Freelancer project (Upwork) Studio or agency
Long-form video (10-20 min) $81-$327 (Video Husky basic, Tasty Edits) $123.75-$124.38 per long-form credit (VidChops); $2,375 per long-form video in a bundle with shorts, scripts and thumbnails (Video Editing Company Core) $500–$1,500 Full-service B2B retainer from $5,000 a month
Short-form clip (under 60 s) $40.50-$94 (Video Husky, Tasty Edits) $30.94-$31.09 per short (VidChops credits) $40-$200 per clip (our arithmetic on $200–$600 for 3-5 clips) $500–$3,000 per social video (Vidico)
Ad creative No editing vendor on our list publishes a per-ad fee; shorts pricing is the closest proxy n/a No published ad-specific price $500–$3,000 per social video (Vidico)
Explainer or motion graphics (60-120 s) Not sold per video by these services n/a $1,500–$5,000 $2,500–$10,000 per 60-second explainer (Vidico)

“Productised” means a vendor that publishes a price list and sells editing only. Video Editing Company is a division of Increditors according to its own About page; it is listed here with disclosure.

Long-Form Video Fees (YouTube, Podcast, Webinar)

Long-form is where the structures diverge most. Video Husky prices a basic YouTube-style edit up to 20 minutes at 2 credits, which is $81–$90 depending on bundle size, a multi-camera interview at 4 credits ($162–$180) and a 20 to 90 minute video at 5 credits ($202.50–$225). Tasty Edits lists one horizontal video at $327, falling to $305 in a 4-video package and $278 in an 8-video package, with a 48-hour turnaround and unlimited revisions on every order.

Credit-and-subscription services land lower per long-form video because you commit to volume. VidChops sells 4 credits for $495 and 8 for $995 a month, with one credit covering one long-form video, which is $123.75 to $124.38 per long-form edit (our arithmetic). Its grid says a long-form credit covers 5 to 60 minutes but its FAQ caps finished videos at 15, so confirm before you buy. A freelancer on Upwork is a project quote: $500–$1,500 for one 10 to 20 minute YouTube video including intro and outro, B-roll, a thumbnail and a caption file.

💡 Pro Tip: Check what the long-form fee leaves out. Video Husky’s credit price covers an exported copy only and no project files, and its 4K export costs one extra credit. A $81 edit that needs 4K and project files is no longer a $81 edit.

Short-Form Clip Fees

Shorts are priced at a fraction of long-form, and the discounts for volume are steep. Tasty Edits charges $94 for one vertical video, $88 each in a 15-video package and $80 each at 30. Video Husky sells a short (Reels, TikTok or Shorts up to one minute) for one credit, $40.50–$45, with AI captions and a motion graphic hook included. VidChops lets one credit buy four shorts, which works out to $30.94 to $31.09 per short on its two plans (our arithmetic). On Upwork, 3 to 5 short clips of 15 to 60 seconds are a $200–$600 project, or $40 to $200 a clip (our arithmetic).

The outlier is Vidico, a production company that prices social and short-form video at $500–$3,000 per video, with short vertical clips at the low end and polished branded pieces higher. That is a different product: concept, shooting and polish rather than cutting footage you already have. Our video editing pricing survey compares what 30 agencies include at each tier.

Video Ad Editing Fees

Ad editing has the least published pricing. No editing-only service we checked lists a per-ad fee, so we do not give you one. The pages do publish the building blocks:

  • Short-form unit price. A paid-social cut is usually a short, so $40.50-$94 for a 15 to 60 second edit at Video Husky and Tasty Edits is the nearest published benchmark. Treat it as a floor, because ad cuts need more hooks, variants and revisions.
  • Variants. Tasty Edits charges $43 for a vertical reformat, so a 9:16, 1:1 and 16:9 set of one ad can cost more than the base edit. Ask whether aspect-ratio versions are included.
  • Production-company pricing. If the ad needs filming, Vidico’s $500–$3,000 per social video is the published range.

At volume, a monthly output plan or credit pool is usually cheaper per variant than per-ad quotes.

Explainer and Motion Graphics Fees

Explainers are the one deliverable where fees are quoted per finished minute rather than per edit. Vidico (page published 29 May 2026) puts the average professional 60-second explainer at $2,500–$10,000, with three price tiers per minute: freelancers $500–$3,000, specialist animation studios $3,000–$10,000 and full-service agencies above that. AI and DIY tools run $99–$1,500. A two-minute studio explainer is $5,000–$20,000, and each extra 30 seconds adds 25% to 40% of the base.

Explainer style Published fee Source
2D vector animation $2,500–$10,000 Vidico site, 24 Oct 2026
Motion graphics and infographics $1,500–$6,000 Vidico site, 24 Oct 2026
Motion graphics or animated explainer, 60-120 s (freelancer) $1,500–$5,000 Upwork site, 24 Oct 2026
AI and DIY explainer tools $99–$1,500 Vidico site, 24 Oct 2026

Explainer fees usually include script and voiceover only as add-ons ($500–$1,500 for a studio script, $1,000–$5,000 for professional voiceover). It is a different job from editing existing footage, which is why a long-form edit costs hundreds of dollars and an explainer thousands.

A Worked Month: 4 Long-Form Videos and 15 Shorts

To compare structures like for like, price one content plan: four long-form videos (10 to 20 minutes) and fifteen shorts in a month. This is our arithmetic on the published figures; every assumption is stated.

Route How we priced it Monthly cost
Tasty Edits, per video 4 horizontal videos at $305 + 15 vertical videos at $88 $2,540
Video Husky, credit bundle 4 basic edits (2 credits each) + 15 shorts (1 credit each) = 23 credits; the 25-credit bundle covers it $1,050 (2 credits left, valid 6 months)
VidChops, credits 4 long-form credits + 15 shorts at 4 per credit = 7.75 credits; Pro (8 credits) covers it $995
Motion Edits, output plan Growth Pro covers 8 long-form + 16 shorts (Kickstart’s 4 long + 8 shorts is too few shorts) $1,499
Upwork freelancers, per project 4 YouTube videos at $500–$1,500 + 3 to 5 clip projects at $200–$600 $2,600–$9,000
Video Editing Company Core 4 long-form + 16-20 shorts, plus scripts, thumbnails, strategy call and performance report $9,500

The spread is wide, from $995 to $9,500, because the routes include different things. The lowest-cost rows buy editing only; the top row adds scripting, thumbnails and strategy. Vidpros sells editor time rather than output and does not say how many videos $1,000 a month buys, so it is not in the table.

💡 Reality check: The cheapest route is not the same product as the dearest one. VidChops Pro at $995 a month and Video Editing Company Core at $9,500 both deliver 4 long-form videos, but only one includes a strategist, scripts and a performance report. Compare inclusions, not totals.

How to Pick a Fee Structure

  • Under about five videos a month, uneven volume: per-video pricing or a credit pool. Credits that last six months (Video Husky) absorb quiet weeks.
  • Steady 8 to 30 videos a month in a mix of formats: an output plan or credit subscription. This is where the per-video fee is lowest.
  • One dedicated editor and enough footage to feed them: editor-time plans (Vidpros, Motion Edits Hire an Editor); check capacity in hours, not videos.
  • You need scripts, strategy and creative direction as well as cutting: a full-service retainer, which is a different product from editing alone.
  • One explainer or a custom piece: a project quote from a freelancer or studio; ask for per-minute pricing to compare.

How We Checked These Fees (and Our Disclosure)

Method. On 24 Oct 2026 we opened each source page, copied every published fee and recorded the page date where one is shown. Tasty Edits, Video Husky, VidChops, Vidpros, Motion Edits, Video Editing Company and Vidico were read as web pages; Upwork was read in a browser because it blocks scripts. The dataset has 48 rows from 8 sources, each with its source URL, kept in our working files. Nothing is estimated. Calculations marked “our arithmetic” divide a published plan price by the output the vendor states, with the assumptions listed beside them.

What we dropped or caveated. Superside publishes only subscription floors for design, video and AI services together and no video-only fee, so it is covered in our hourly and retainer guides instead. No editing-only vendor publishes a per-ad fee, so the ad section gives building blocks rather than a price. Video Husky shows $1,590 for Siberian on its plan card and $1,549 in a comparison table elsewhere on its site. VidChops lists a 5 to 60 minute long-form credit and a 15-minute cap in its FAQ.

Disclosure. This guide is published by Increditors, a video editing agency, and includes our own services. Video Editing Company (videoeditingcompany.com) is a division of Increditors according to its own About page. We do not publish Increditors prices.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much are video editing fees in 2026?

It depends on the deliverable. On the pages we read on 24 Oct 2026, a long-form YouTube-style edit costs $81 to $327 per video from productised services (Video Husky credits, Tasty Edits) and $500–$1,500 per project from freelancers on Upwork. A vertical short costs about $30.94 to $94 per video, and a 60-second explainer costs $2,500–$10,000 from a studio. Monthly retainers run from $495 to $16,000.

How much do video editors charge per hour?

Upwork’s editor cost page shows entry-level editors below $30 an hour (median $10), mid-tier editors at $31 to $60 (median $40) and senior editors at $61 to $150 (median $100). Vidico puts a dedicated editor at $60 to $150 an hour. Our video editor hourly rates guide covers country-by-country figures.

How much should I charge for video editing?

If you are pricing your own editing, the market gives three anchors. Freelance project prices on Upwork run $200–$600 for 3 to 5 short clips, $500–$1,500 for one 10 to 20 minute YouTube video and $1,000–$3,000 for a 2 to 5 minute brand video. Productised services sell the same long-form edit for $278 to $327 and a short for $80 to $94. Price per deliverable and state what is included.

What is the difference between per-video, credit and monthly fees?

A per-video fee prices one finished video and is clearest when volume is low. A credit system (Video Husky, VidChops) sells a pool of credits that each buy a type of video, so a short costs fewer credits than a long edit. A monthly fee buys either a set output (Motion Edits, Video Editing Company) or a block of editor time (Vidpros, Video Husky plans). Ask which of the three you are being quoted, because the same dollar figure means very different volumes.

What costs extra on top of the headline editing fee?

Common extras on the pages we read: a custom thumbnail ($43 at Tasty Edits), a vertical reformat of a long video ($43), subtitles ($95 a month at VidChops), 4K export (one extra credit at Video Husky), revision rounds beyond the standard two (8% to 12% of the project per round, per Vidico), music licensing ($200 to $2,000) and rush delivery (a 30% to 50% surcharge). Ask for these in writing before you sign.

Is a monthly retainer cheaper than paying per video?

Only above a certain volume. In our worked month of 4 long-form videos and 15 shorts, per-video pricing at Tasty Edits comes to $2,540, a credit bundle at Video Husky to $1,050 and a VidChops Pro plan to $995, while a full-service B2B retainer such as Video Editing Company Core is $9,500 a month because it adds scripts, thumbnails and strategy.

Verdict: What to Budget in 2026

Budget by deliverable, not by the lowest headline. For long-form, expect $81 to $327 per video from productised services at low volume, falling toward $123.75 per video on a credit subscription, and $500–$1,500 from freelancers. For shorts, expect $30.94 to $94. For a 60-second explainer, expect $2,500–$10,000. Ads have no published editing fee; price them as shorts with extra revisions and variants.

Whatever you pick, ask each vendor the same questions: which unit am I buying, what is included (revisions, thumbnail, captions, project files, 4K), and what does rush work cost. If you want a quote built around your own mix of long-form videos, shorts and ads, you can book a call with our video editing agency.
