Explainer & Animation Cost Index 2026: 18 Studios

Storyboard-style stacked video frames forming a rising bar chart beside coin stacks, illustrating explainer and animation cost index

Last checked: October 2026 — every figure below was read on the studio’s own page on 24 Oct 2026

Short answer

The median published entry price for a human-made animated explainer is $3,000 (n = 15 studios, range $799 to $30,000). A standard custom 60-second 2D video is usually listed at about $4,250 to $9,245. AI-assisted options start near $497.

TL;DR

We read the pricing, packages and cost pages of explainer and animation studios on 24 Oct 2026 and recorded 41 price points from 18 studios that state their own prices, each with a verbatim quote and a source link. Most studios (12 of 15) start at $5,000 or less; only 3 start at $6,000 or more. Another 9 studios publish market-wide cost guides rather than their own prices; they sit in a separate table. 7 studios we checked publish no usable figure.

Explainer video prices are famously hard to pin down because studios quote by scope, not by the minute. This index does something simpler: it collects what studios say they charge, on their own pages, on one date, and links every figure to its source. We are a video editing agency that also produces animated explainers, so buyers regularly ask us to sanity-check a quote against the market. This is the evidence we point them to.

How it differs from our guides: Explainer Video Cost 2026 explains what drives the price and what buyers should budget; 2D animation cost per minute does the same for 2D. This post is the index of studios behind those guides: who publishes what, in a table you can check. For ranked studio profiles see best explainer video companies and best 2D animation studios.

Method, sample and disclosure

Date and method. All figures were read on 24 Oct 2026 from each studio’s own public website. For every row we saved the price, the unit, a verbatim quote and the URL. We did not estimate, convert currencies or round. Studios were found through public listicles and our own earlier research, then their pricing, packages or cost pages were fetched directly.

Inclusion rule. A studio is in the priced sample (n = 18) if its own page states a figure for its own explainer or animation work: a published package, a stated range, or a “from” price. 16 of those state USD, one states GBP and one shows a bare “$” with no currency, so statistics use USD studios only. Studios that publish a market-wide cost guide without stating their own prices (9) are listed separately. The row title said 40 studios; the true count of studios stating their own prices is 18, and we would rather publish that than pad the sample.

Entry price. For each studio we took the lowest published price for a human-made animated explainer of about 60 seconds. Where the page prices per minute (Flikli, whiteboardanimation.com) we used the per-minute figure; Wizmotions’ $799 covers up to 45 seconds. AI-assisted offers, monthly plans and live-action options are reported separately.

📋 Disclosure: This guide is published by Increditors, a video editing agency, and includes our own services. Increditors quotes projects individually and publishes no explainer prices here, so it is not in the priced sample or any statistic. videoeditingcompany.com, which describes itself as a division of Increditors, appears once, as a monthly editing-plan reference point in Chart 2; its price is on its own pricing page.

The headline numbers

The table is calculated from the dataset below. “n” counts studios, not price points; each studio counts once per metric.

Metric (USD, read 24 Oct 2026) n studios Median Range
Entry price, human-made animated explainer (about 60 seconds) 15 $3,000 $799 to $30,000
Published band for a standard custom 60-second 2D video: floor / ceiling 6 $4,250 / $9,245 $2,580 to $15,000
Entry price, AI-assisted explainer 4 $1,250 $497 to $2,500
Entry price, monthly plan (studios that sell one) 4 $2,333.33 $1,499 to $6,000

Three things follow. First, the entry price is low: 12 of 15 studios start at $5,000 or less, and the median studio starts at $3,000. Second, the floor and the ceiling are far apart even inside one studio, because scope, not runtime, drives the quote: Epipheo states projects from $5,000 to $150,000+, Yum Yum’s calculator runs from $6,000 to $62,000, and Skeleton Productions starts at $30,000. Third, the six studios that publish a band for a standard custom 60-second 2D video put its floor around $4,250 and its ceiling around $9,245, which matches the third-party benchmarks later in this post.

What a 60-second explainer costs

Studios that publish a band for a standard custom 60-second 2D explainer cluster tighter than the entry prices suggest. This table uses only studios that state a figure or band for that scope.

Studio (source) Published band What the page says
Gisteo $3,500–$5,000 Three packages, Just Animate! to VIP Fast Pass
Flikli $2,990–$9,990 Simple to Premium, per minute
Yans Media $5,000–$8,500 Typical for 60 to 90 seconds
Creamy Animation $5,000–$10,000 Standard explainer, per 60 seconds
Explainify $6,000–$15,000 Custom 2D, 60 seconds, standard
The Cuillin Collective $2,580 Fixed price for 60 seconds

Median floor $4,250, median ceiling $9,245 (n = 6). Gisteo is the cleanest example of a fixed menu: $3,500 if you bring the script, $4,000 full-service, $5,000 for the fast lane. Creamy Animation and Yans Media state their typical 60-second work at $5,000 to $10,000 and $5,000 to $8,500. Explainify’s standard custom 2D explainer is $6,000 to $15,000, and it prices whiteboard and short-form work lower, from about $3,000. At the cheap end, Cuillin Collective lists $2,580 for 60 seconds. For a deeper cost breakdown by style see our explainer video cost guide.

💡 Pro Tip: Ask every studio the same three questions: is the script included, how many revision rounds, and what happens past 60 seconds. Gisteo, for example, adds $500 per extra 30 seconds, pro-rated. The answers explain more of a price gap than the studio’s size does.

Per minute, per month and AI-assisted

Per-minute pricing

Two studios price by the minute. Flikli lists $2,990, $4,990 and $9,990 per minute for Simple, Custom and Premium. whiteboardanimation.com states whiteboard animation at $2,800 to $35,000 per minute, with a scriptwriter add-on at $500 for a three-minute script. Vidico’s market guide puts specialized studios at $3,000 to $10,000 per minute, so Flikli’s Custom tier sits inside that range and its Simple tier is just under it.

Monthly plans

Subscription pricing is now common: Video Explainers sells 4, 10 or 25 videos a month at $1,499, $3,499 and $7,499; What a Story sells a content plan at $6,000 a month; Explainify quotes ongoing short-form content at $3,000 to $4,000 a month; Gisteo’s unlimited plan is $20K a year, or about $1,667 a month (our calculation). Plans run higher at agencies that bundle design with video, such as Vidico (from around $5,000 a month) and Superside ($15,000 a month minimum). For editing-first retainers see our video editing pricing survey.

AI-assisted explainers

4 studios in the sample sell an AI-assisted tier: Video Explainers at $497 for one video up to 60 seconds, Gisteo’s AI avatar videos from $1,000, Yans Media’s AI-workflow explainers at $1,500 to $2,500 and Creamy Animation’s AI-assisted explainers from $2,500. The median entry is $1,250, against $3,000 for human-made work. The page copy is the vendors’, and we did not evaluate output quality. We compare the two routes in AI explainer video vs agency.

Chart 2: monthly plans

Entry price of a monthly video plan (USD per month, 24 Oct 2026)Video Explainers$1,499Gisteo$1,666.67Explainify$3,000Vidico*$5,000videoeditingcompany.com*$5,000What a Story$6,000Superside*$15,000

* Context only: bundles design, editing or all creative work, not explainers alone; excluded from the plan statistics. Gisteo = $20K/yr divided by 12 (calculation). Sources are linked in the dataset below.

Among studios that sell a monthly explainer plan, the median entry is $2,333.33 (n = 4). The jump to agency-style subscriptions is steep: that is the difference between buying a video and buying a team. videoeditingcompany.com, which describes itself as a division of Increditors and is a premium B2B retainer editing service, lists its Growth plan at $5,000 a month; it is an editing team, not an animation studio, which is why it is shown only as a reference.

Market guides and third-party benchmarks

9 more studios publish market-wide cost ranges on their blogs without stating their own prices. Those ranges describe the market as each studio sees it, so we keep them out of the statistics.

Studio (source) Claim Range Unit

MotionGility Most companies, 60-second explainer $5,000–$10,000 per 60 seconds
MyPromoVideos Mid tier (B2B SaaS and enterprise) $8,000–$20,000 per video
Motionvillee Typical 60-second explainer, US market $1,000–$8,500 per 60 seconds
Explain Visually Small boutique team, 60-90 second project €6,000–€12,000 per project

Two larger third-party datasets give a reference point. Wyzowl reports a median of $5,400 and a trimmed mean of $8,457 from 116 quotes (Wyzowl explainer video cost). Yans Media reports an average of $8,746 across 110 studios for one standard 60-second brief (Yans Media explainer cost study). Both are other companies’ data and are not part of our statistics. Both fall inside the $4,250 to $9,245 band above, which is why we tell buyers to budget the band, not the entry price.

🔍 Reading the gap: Entry prices (median $3,000) are not what buyers usually pay. Market averages (Wyzowl $5,400 median, Yans $8,746 average) include scripting, revisions, voiceover and tiering up from the entry package. Budget the band, not the floor.

Studios that do not publish prices

We also checked 8 studios whose pages publish no price for their own work. Two show only budget drop-downs on a form, and one could not be read.

How to use these numbers

  1. Start from the band, not the floor. Budget the $4,250 to $9,245 range for a standard custom 60-second 2D video, then adjust for script, voiceover and revisions.
  2. Compare like with like. A per-minute price, a 45-second package and a $62,000 calculator ceiling are different products; match the unit before you compare studios.
  3. Ask what is not in the price. Script, voiceover, revision rounds, music and extra length are where quotes diverge. Our motion graphics vs animation guide shows how style changes scope.
  4. Get three written scopes. To benchmark a quote against this index, book a call. Our case studies, including the 3D explainer project, show delivered work.

Increditors has delivered 1,700+ videos for 340+ clients and holds a 5.0 rating from 12 reviews on Clutch. That is our own record, not part of this data.

Limitations

This is a snapshot of 18 studios on one day, not a census of the market. Studios that hide prices are missing from the statistics, and are probably the more expensive end of the market, so the medians are biased low. Many studios publish “from” prices, and page prices are not final quotes; they exclude add-ons, taxes and custom work. Studios were found through public listicles and our own research, so studios without an online presence are missed. Entry prices compare packages of different scope (45 seconds to one minute, with and without scripts). Several published ranges are open-ended (“$35,000+”), and we use only the stated figures. The sample is 16 USD studios, which is small, and medians shift when one studio is added. We did not assess animation quality, turnaround or reviews.

FAQ

How much does an explainer video cost in 2026?

Among 15 studios that publish their own prices (read 24 Oct 2026), the median entry price for a human-made animated explainer is $3,000, and a standard custom 60-second 2D video is usually listed at about $4,250 to $9,245. Third-party data points the same way: Wyzowl reports a $5,400 median from 116 quotes.

How much does an animated video cost per minute?

Two studios in the sample price per minute: Flikli from $2,990 for its Simple tier up to $9,990 for Premium, and whiteboardanimation.com at $2,800 to $35,000 per minute. Vidico’s market guide puts specialized studios at $3,000 to $10,000 per minute.

How much does 2D animation cost?

Studios that publish a figure for a standard custom 60-second 2D explainer list a floor around $4,250 and a ceiling around $9,245 (median of 6 studios). Premium or character-led work runs higher; Explainify lists premium explainers at $15,000 to $20,000 and Creamy Animation lists premium work from $8,000 to $25,000 and above.

Are AI-assisted explainer videos cheaper?

Yes, at the entry level. Four studios list AI-assisted tiers with a median entry price of $1,250, against $3,000 for human-made animation. Video Explainers lists $497 for one video up to 60 seconds. We did not assess output quality.

Why do so many studios not publish prices?

Studios price by scope: script, style, length, voiceover and revisions. We found 7 studios whose pages publish no price or show only budget options on a quote form. Ask each for a written scope and a fixed price so quotes can be compared.

How was this index built, and does Increditors appear in it?

We read each studio’s own public page on 24 Oct 2026 and saved the figure with a verbatim quote and source link. Increditors quotes projects individually, so it is not in the priced sample or any statistic. This post is published by Increditors, a video editing agency.

Changelog: 5 Nov 2026 — first published; 18 studios with own prices, 9 with market guides, 8 checked without prices; all figures read 24 Oct 2026.
